When is it officially summer?

I don't know what the official start of summer is on the calendar. To me the start of summer is never a date, its the first time I get a sunburn!
Its not that I don't wear sunscreen, I am a huge advocate. I get a sunburn because I spend the entire day outside either swimming, boating, camping, or going to SixFlags.
I am going to Eisenhower State Park on May 23rd for my first camping trip of the season. I am excited, but a little disappointing that we were not able to get a campsite with electricity. I expect to spend the entire day swimming soaking up the sun, the net result of which will be a sunburn.
What has to happen for you to feel the official start of summer?

  2. Summer is when I can finally wear flip flops and I hear the ice cream man roaming the neighborhood with his same old song playing!

  4. I must agree with the A/C and the ice cream man comments. We have had both for a LONG time! Summer is when you can finally play outside...oh uh I forgot Texas is too hot to play outside in the summer...
