Today I have eaten 1 half a bowl of salad with a vinegar dressing and 1/4 pound of imitation crab salad. I was doing well and was drinking water all day, but I just went into the kitchen to get a drink and without thinking I grabbed a Dr. Pepper, opened it and chugged it down in less than 1 minute. I have to get rid of everything I am not suppose to eat from our house. Unfortunately the cheapest way of doing this is going to be by consumption! I am going to go to the gym today when Ayasha gets home and try to work out on some weights. I think I am going to skip basketball today, or at least not play until after my work out.
I am going to have the rest of my chicken salad for dinner tonight so i should be ok as long as I steer clear of sodas for the rest of the day.
Next week I am leaving going out of town on business and will be staying in a hotel for the whole week. It gets very lonely being out of town by my self and I miss my Ayahsa and the girls very quickly! We have 2 laptops but only one has a video camera to it so I think I may buy a web-cam this weekend so I can Skype with my kids.
Another big downside of trailing out of town is that it can be very expensive to eat, especially if you want to eat healthy. Everyone was saying on my last post that healthy food can be inexpensive if you do it right, but my problem is when I am out of town, I cant cook anything, all I have is a microwave and sometimes I will stay in a nice enough place to have a refrigerator (my firm dose not reimburse my travel expenses so I usually stay someplace very cheap!)
I would love to hear ideas on how to stay healthy when on the road like I will be next week.
And, I have been putting a lot of though into a health food fast food joint. I think it would be very successful. On the menu, you could have information like weight watcher points, fat content, calories, vegan/vegetarian and so forth. I think all of the wrappers and napkins there should be made from recycled materials and recycling should be a major point of the restaurant. It could be called something like Green Platenet, a pun on green planet.

The girls at Ballet

Oh my gosh! First of all, LOVED the girls pics. SO CUTE!!!! Second, the idea of a healthy fast food joint sounds wonderful, but I don't have a CLUE what would be served! Carrots on a stick? Sprout salad? As far as your traveling goes, I have found that a lot of healthy food doesn't even need cooking. Like fresh fruits, veggies, and uh... well.... I think that's it!
ReplyDeleteStuff like black bean burgers, salads, no sugar added smoothies. If i knew more foods, then I wouldn't be over weight right now! HAHA
ReplyDeleteWhen I go out of town it's usually a break from the diet for me, so I may not be the best help. But, last time I travelled I roomed with a girl who was such a good example for eating. She always made the right choice - salads instead of steaks, veggies instead of starchy stuff, dressing on the side so she didn't end up with too much, fruit instead of chips (when we went to Panera), etc. But the coolest (or maybe nerdiest and cheapest) thing she did was go nuts at the continental breakfast, and she stocked up on extra fruit and cereal to snack on through the day. Plus, every morning while I sat around with one eye open drinking coffee, she would be working out at the hotel gym.
ReplyDeleteWill you be eating at restaurants or fast food more? Have you read, or can you pick up, a copy of that "Eat this, not that" book?
Turkey burgers are good!
Lots of fast food (McDonald's and Carl's Jr) have good size salads, low in calories and fat if you don't use too much dressing. Stock up on fresh fruit and take it with you for snacking between meals. Leave the cookies and crackers in the store. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteI will have to check out that book, Amber, I like the idea about the continental breakfast load up.
ReplyDeleteI say every morning, "I will eat good today!" Within 30 minutes I've already screwed up. I love sweets way too much to give them up all together. Moderation. I am sure that is the key. Good luck with trying to be healthier.
